Short Poem : New Year Blues

The chickens scream in thrill
Only a few of their friends were killed and grilled
Small beef donned plates of white rice
Christmas bonanza, with no whiff of price slash!
New year is harder than midyear
Pressure to entertain only brought despair
Why do we shout? Why do we cheer?

Lean figure of Santa-clause pets scared ones
Explaining why budget cuts
Made his presence the only present
Husband dig into deep pockets
And unfold nothing but lint
As we celebrate in darkness and scarcity

Have we really left last year in dust?
If we still expect unpaid benefits of work?
Our stomachs rumble in tunes
Colourless life, but we feeling the blues
Children smile while stature scream malady
Federal Government, please pay our salary.

The end
